Kathy Macdonald has taught courses and workshops at University of Calgary Continuing Education since 2006. As a retired constable of Calgary Police Services, she combines professionalism and credibility to create student-centered learning experiences for our community both in-person and online. Kathy has facilitated sessions on the following topics: Personnel Security and Identity Theft- A Protection Guide. We are especially pleased that she will be teaching a new course for us in 2014 called, “Cybercrime Prevention”. This is a course that she researched, proposed, designed, and developed. Our academic committee accepted her thorough proposal unanimously with no amendments required. Kathy is aware of who the audience is.
As a long-time advocate for online safety and cybercrime prevention, Kathy has worked and spoken extensively at various industry events as an educator on these and other cyber security issues. With decades of experience in law enforcement and industry, Kathy has gained invaluable knowledge and expertise to assist those with gaining a greater understanding of maintaining their cyber security knowledge and understanding.

Kathy you have been a driving force behind this initiative since its inception. With your assistance CEPF has been able to build and improve upon Online Safety week each year. Kathy Macdonald is a rare combination of interesting and dynamic speaker, well informed cybercrime expert, truly caring person, and...a police officer! For over a decade she has been the one I send people to when for a truly balanced perspective on issues from cyberbullying to Internet luring and stalking. She keeps herself well informed and is always willing to help!
Kathy was assigned media relations and communications duties for the 1997 World Police and Fire Games held in Calgary in July of that year. She worked very hard for the two years leading up to the event nurturing relationships with media outlets and advising the Games leadership team on communication strategies. Kathy demonstrated a strong understanding of the value of internal and external communications and I would not hesitate to recommend her for any project that involves stakeholder relationship building and communications.
Kathy is a dedicated and passionate member of the Calgary Police Service Crime Prevention Unit. Kathy has worked extremely hard, taking a hybrid idea and developing it into a world class program. She is always willing to lend a hand and is never too busy to provide a presentation. Through these efforts Kathy has positioned the Calgary Police Service as a leader in cyber related issues and her work should be applauded.
